Several clues suggest the event may have been staged, including an unverified letter sent to an investor claiming it was a premeditated escape from harassment, and trading activity involving Yu's known wallets after the incident.

His obituary was removed from Legacy.com, further fueling speculation that he faked his death to leave the public eye and pursue music anonymously.

Blockchain firm Bubblemaps supported claims that $100,000 worth of ZEREBRO tokens were moved to create a new coin, LLJEFFY, shortly after the event.
Observers also questioned the authenticity of the livestream footage, suggesting it was edited.

The hacker originally stole $4.67 million by abusing a callback function in an ERC677 token through a reentrancy attack, draining multiple assets including USDC, BUSD, and wrapped Bitcoin.

CertiK confirmed the recent transaction stemmed from the same exploit.

On-chain analyst ZackXBT has reported another $45 million stolen from Coinbase users in the past week through social engineering scams, bringing annual losses to over $330 million.
10/ So where does the blame lie?
a) For the vast majority of the time these theft addresses are not being reported at all by Coinbase in popular compliance tools even after the thefts went on for weeks.
b) Multiple victims who have contacted me get stuck with useless customer

These scams often involve attackers posing as Coinbase support, draining user wallets through fake communications.
ZackXBT noted that no other exchange faces the same scale of issue, making Coinbase an anomaly in targeted scams.
